Sheffield Hallam journalism graduate Kezia Buckley is over the moon with her new job as trainee journalist with the Goole Times in East Yorkshire.
Kezia, who graduates in November with a BA (Hons) in Journalism, was offered the post last week immediately after an interview and will begin work on the weekly tabloid on Monday, 5 November.
In a message to journalism staff Kezia said she was “absolutely over the moon and I really want to thank you all for teaching me so well.”
She added that Times staff were particularly impressed with her portfolio of work “and the fact that I had done loads of court reporting and loved it and also my social networking savvy was a big plus point.”
Kezia said she plans to complete her NCTJ diploma whilst working for the Goole Times and emphasised the importance placed by editors in the key NCTJ skills – news-writing, shorthand, media law and public affairs.
Journalism course leader David Clarke said: “We all wish Kezia a long and successful career in journalism.
“During her time at Hallam she worked hard to achieve this success which she very much deserves. Again, this good news serves to emphasise the fact that if you are determined to break into journalism you will succeed if you are persistent and prepared to put in the work that is required.”
