BBC TV presenter Emily Maitlis has returned to her home city of Sheffield to pick up an honorary doctorate from Hallam.
The Newsnight and News Channel anchor received her award at the City Hall on Friday.
She was honoured for a broadcasting career which has seen her report on events such as the handover of Hong Kong in 1997 and this year’s US presidential election. She told fellow graduating students: ” Don’t be scared to think differently to those around you, question accepted wisdom, question herd mentality, fear too much consensus.”
After the ceremony she spoke to students Kathryn Smiles, Brad Lowe and Rachel Wright.
