Dr Lily Canter is taking over the role of journalism course leader from September 2013.
The role was previously held by Dr David Clarke for three years but the senior lecturer has handed over the reigns whilst he takes a sabbatical. Dr Clarke will return to teaching in semester 2 but Dr Canter will remain course leader for the whole academic year.
Dr Canter has been on maternity leave for the past year but has been a member of the journalism team since 2010. As a journalist and academic Dr Canter teaches on both practical and theoretical modules including Writing the Message Online, Public Affairs and Media Law. She specialises in digital journalism which was the subject of her recent Ph.D thesis.
She said: “After a year off work I am ready for a new challenge and I am looking forward to my role as course leader. I have very big boots to fill as David Clarke did an excellent job and I hope students find me just as approachable. I can’t wait to meet all the new and existing students and get started with my teaching and research.”
