Ultra local TV is expanding – and that’s good news for journalism students.
In 2014, Sheffield is getting its first digital local television channel. But what many people don’t know is this isn’t the first channel of its kind.
BBC’s The One Show is making a film about the history of local television focusing on Sheffield Cablevision. It broadcast a variety of local programmes in the early 1970s, including kids’ programmes and current affairs documentaries.
The Showroom cinema will be showing some fascinating (and often funny) archive footage of some of these programmes to a small audience. The One Show will film their reactions to this footage and will interview a few people in the audience for their views on it.
We are looking for 10 to 20 young people to take part in this filming. It would be good if some of these students were born and bred in Sheffield. They will be needed on the morning of Thursday 17th October (exact time TBC but it will be around 9.30am).
