The 60th edition of BBC Sports Personality of the Year is offering one student the opportunity to work on the production management team at the event this December.
The show will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC Radio 5 live on Sunday, 15th December 2013.
The star-studded BBC Sport event will take place at the first direct arena in Leeds, in front of an estimated 12,000 capacity crowd. The coveted trophy has been won by many of the greats of British sport, including Sir Bobby Moore, Princess Anne, Lord Coe, Daley Thompson, Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean, Sir Steve Redgrave, David Beckham, Dame Kelly Homes, Andrew Flintoff, Sir Chris Hoy and last year, Sir Bradley Wiggins.
This year, BBC Sport is offering one student the opportunity to work with the production management team in the run-up to, and during, BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2013. You will be involved in a wide range of tasks preparing for the event and ensuring that everything goes to plan on the night. You will also have the chance to find out about live event production and how sports programmes are put together.
To find out more about the role, Dan Walker, the presenter of Football Focus, has prepared this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiLFCKw8QEo&feature=youtu.be
If you would like to apply for this amazing opportunity, then we need you to do the following two things:
- The production team are not only planning for this year’s event but have begun the process of identifying a location for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2014. We would like you to suggest a location in the UK for next year’s show and explain why you have selected this town or city. Consideration should be given to where the show has taken place in the past, the sporting landscape of 2014 and the logistical challenges of putting on a live event (200 words max).
- Please list the key skills you will bring to the SPOTY production management team and why you think they would be important (150 words max).
The placement will run from 2nd December to 15th December. The first week will be spent in MediaCity, Salford and the second week will be spent on site in Leeds. Please note that, although the placement is unpaid, the production team will fund the cost of your hotel in Leeds during week 2 of the placement if you are not based locally.
Please email your application to Clare Proffitt firstname.lastname@example.org and include your name, address and contact telephone number. The closing date for applications is 10am on Friday 1st November 2013. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to MediaCity for interviews on Wednesday 13th November 2013.
