Dr Clarke’s research in The Telegraph

Research by SHU journalism lecturer Dr David Clarke featured in The Telegraph newspaper to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One.

The article discussed the investigation of Dr Clarke into the ‘Russian rumour’ which speculated that a million Cossack warriors had been shipped to Britain in the opening weeks of the war.

The rumour, which was entirely false, was one of a number of myths and legends which emerged during the First World War and feature in Dr Clarke’s book The Angel of Mons.
